FFL: Week 3 Recap
Last week this column promised its full emotional support to whoever played Kevin Malone next. That turned out to be MarginVictory, who held the lead into late Sunday afternoon. Kevin won anyway. So now we know what emotional support is worth on the scoreboard, and we’re going to need a better plan. Four teams are 3-0. One of them is a robot.
Sales Division
Sales has two unbeaten teams, and neither one cracked the top half of the league in scoring this week. I’m one of them, so I’ll move along.
Never Gibbs Up 188.14, ThatsMyBoyeee 154.38. The highest score in the league this week, with 0.2 points left on the bench. Jalen Hurts sat for the third straight week, and this time it was the right call. ThatsMyBoyeee got 43.28 from Brock Purdy, the biggest individual score of the week, and had the fourth-best total in the league. Great week. Wrong opponent.
Mid Atlantic Menace 151.46, The Potassium Powerhouses 141.36. Sunday night. Down 0.8. One player left, and it’s Matthew Stafford. That is exactly where you want to be, and the Menace turned it into a first win that was two weeks overdue. Last week they outscored half the winners in this league and got nothing for it. This week they get the whole paragraph. As for the Powerhouses: they’ve lost to two of the three biggest scores of the season, and they led this one with the Sunday night game still going. If you’re looking for the heartbreak team of the year, stop looking. It’s 0-3 and it has outscored twelve of the other fifteen teams in this league.
ThatsMYPurseIDKYou91 138.04, Griddys Gone Wild 133.24. Closest game of the week. The Griddys led going into Monday night, and then D’Andre Swift showed up. That’s back-to-back Monday rescues for a team that is now 3-0. The Griddys made two pickups this week and both delivered, which makes a 4.8 point differential sting a little more.
Accounting Division
Accounting has two unbeaten teams and three still looking for a first win. One of those three just outscored every unbeaten team in the league.
JFHarmon 182.74, blountchase 160.46. Last week I wrote that we’ve all needed the next matchup to arrive. It arrived, and blountchase answered with 160.46, the third-highest score of the week. The schedule answered with 182.74. JFHarmon has won two straight and trails only Kevin in total points. And at some point we have to start asking if they are also a robot.
SBrooks27 141.34, SethMD 132.96. This one came down to Monday night, and Monday night came down to one matchup inside the matchup: SethMD’s Eagles defense against SBrooks27’s D’Andre Swift. Swift won. The reigning champ is 3-0 with the biggest score of the week sitting on the bench, which is the most champion thing I have ever seen. SethMD has now lost twice by single digits, this one to a running back Seth’s own defense was supposed to be tackling. It's a hard-knock life.
Kevin Malone 148.1, MarginVictory 129.78. MarginVictory lost De’Von Achane in the first quarter and still led the robot late into the afternoon. That’s a fight, and the column’s support was well spent. Kevin, unfortunately, is 3-0 and didn't notice.
Now the fun part. All four unbeaten teams play each other next week. Missed it by THAT much gets ThatsMYPurseIDKYou91 in Sales, and the reigning champ gets Kevin in Accounting. SethMD and blountchase meet too, which should finally hand somebody a first win. I'd offer Shenika our support against Kevin, but that hasn't worked out so far.
League Notes
- Six managers made a roster move this week. All six lost. The pickups themselves were good, so keep working the wire. I just thought you should know.
